Reliance Communications (RCom) after trading hours on Monday, 14 June 2010, said its board has approved a proposal to bring investors into its tower unit, Reliance Infratel to create an independent infrastructure business. RCom is looking at options including a demerger and/or other suitable value-creating options, and would be paid in cash and stock. RCom, which had earlier planned to sell 10% of Reliance Infratel through an initial public offering, said it was in advanced stage talks with several international and local strategic and financial players for the tower unit stake and expected to announce a deal shortly.
Reliance Industries (RIL) is reportedly planning to bid for the Surguja ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Chhattisgarh. The government has set 5 July 2010 as the deadline for submitting the bid. The Chhattisgarh entry would be RIL's second major diversification plan after the Ambani brothers last month cancelled the non-compete agreements that barred them from entering each other's businesses.
Infosys Technologies is reported to have paid Rs 275 crore as advanced tax in Q1 June 2010 versus Rs 230 crore in Q1 June 2009.
Strides Arcolab has received USFDA approval for Sumatriptan Succinate injection that is used in the treatment of migraine. The injection will be launched under a partnership with Sagent Pharmaceuticals who will market it. The total market for Sumatriptan in 2009 was approximated $200 million, the company said in a statement.
Mahindra Satyam (erstwhile Satyam Computers) has sought more time from authorities to file financial statements relating to financial years 2008 and 2009. The company has sought time till 30 September 2010 to file these statements. The Company Law Board had earlier set 30 June 2010 as the deadline for the filings.
Mahindra Satyam is also seeking exemption from publishing quarterly financial results for the period beginning from the three months ended 30 December 2008, through to 31 March 2010. The company has also sought permission from the Company Law Board to publish its results for the quarter ended 30 June 2010 when it reports results for the quarter ended 30 September 2010, it said in a statement to the stock exchange.
Star India is reportedly selling its 25.99% stake in Balaji Telefilms to Reliance Big Entertainment, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company. Star India had acquired the stake in Balaji through its affiliate Asian Broadcasting FZ-LLC for Rs 123 crore in 2004.
Bajaj Hindusthan's board will meet on 17 June 2010, to consider amalgamation of Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar and Industries, a 75% listed subsidiary, with the company.
Gayatri Projects' board will meet 17 June 2010, to consider proposal to enter into solar power generation business.

Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries (RIL) entered the telecom arena by announcing a Rs 4800 crore acquisition of Infotel Broadband Services that emerged as the sole winner of pan-India broadband spectrum last week. The acquisition of 95% stake, through fresh equity infusion, values Mahendra Nahata group's Infotel at over Rs 5000 crore.
Meanwhile, some reports suggested that RIL board has identified power, telecommunications, financial services and pharmaceuticals for investments in the near future. The board, which met early last week, discussed strategies to enter these sectors, following the cancellation of a non-compete pact between the Ambani brothers.
Sun TV promoter Kalanithi Maran has bought a 37.7% stake in low-cost carrier SpiceJet from its promoter Bhupendra Kansagra and US investor WL Ross. The deal, which makes Maran the single largest shareholder in SpiceJet, was reported to be struck at around Rs 750 crore.
The acquisition was done by Maran, elder brother of union textiles minister, Dayanidhi Maran, in his individual capacity through his company KAL Airways. According to reports, an open offer to further buy 20% stake from the market is expected to come by the end June, taking his combined stake to 57%.
According to reports, SpiceJet is likely to place an order to buy at least 20 more planes as part of a renewed expansion drive after Kalanithi Maran agreed to buy 37.7% stake in the airline.
Atlanta, in consortium, has received contract order worth Rs 114.48 crore from Rites.
A committee of senior government officials and financial regulators has reportedly proposed mandatory disclosure of loan defaults by listed companies in a move to protect shareholder interest and boost investor confidence. At present, information on loan defaults is available only to lenders, Reserve Bank of India and credit information firms.

The key benchmark indices surged to their highest level in more than a month in late trade after global rating agency Fitch Ratings raised India's local currency rating outlook to stable from negative. The BSE 30-share Sensex was provisionally up 282.22 points or 1.65%, up 228.43 points from the day's low and off 4.01 points from the day's high. Firm Asian and European markets and higher US index futures helped domestic bourses extend a three-day rally. The market breadth was strong. Shares of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group (ADAG) were in demand.
Rating agency Fitch today forecast a decline in government debt to GDP ratio to 80% by March 2011 from 83% at the end of March 2010. It also upgraded India's growth forecast to 8.5% in the year to March 2011 from earlier 7%.
Coming back to stocks, the market opened on a firm note, tracking gains in Asian stocks. The Sensex hit a fresh intraday high in morning trade. The market pared gains later. The key benchmark indices surged to one-month highs in early afternoon trade. The market pared gains in afternoon trade on profit booking. Stocks regained strength in mid-afternoon trade. The market spurted in late trade.
IT stocks were in demand on upbeat economic data in the US, the biggest market for the Indian IT firms. But, auto stocks took a breather on profit booking after a recent rally triggered by robust vehicle sales data for May 2010. Telecom stocks saw mixed trend.
Stocks shrugged off data showing a surge in headline inflation, which may force the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to raise interest rates further. Inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) rose an annual 10.16% in May 2010, faster than 9.59% rise in April 2010, government data showed on Monday. Meanwhile, inflation for March 2010 was revised upwards to 11.04% from a provisional rise of 9.9%.
European stocks rose for the fourth consecutive session on Monday as investor confidence over the global economic recovery grew. Key indices in UK, France and Germany rose by 0.71% to 1.64%.
Asian markets rose for a third consecutive day on Monday as higher confidence among US consumers boosted speculation that demand for products and resources will increase in the world's biggest economy. The key benchmark indices in Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore rose by between 0.78% to 1.80%. China's markets are closed from Monday to Wednesday for the Dragon Boat Festival.
US markets rose on Friday, 11 June 2010 after a report found consumers are gaining confidence in the economy. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 38.54, or 0.4%, to 10,211.07. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 4.76, or 0.4%, to 1,091.60 and the Nasdaq composite index rose 24.89, or 1.1%, to 2,243.60.
A private survey showed Consumer Sentiment Index rose to 75.5 in June 2010 from 74.5 in May 2010. This is the index's best reading since January 2008.
Trading in US index futures indicated that the Dow could gain 81 points at the opening bell on Monday, 14 June 2010.
Back home, investors will eye the first installment of the corporate advance tax payment which will give some clue about Q1 June 2010 corporate results. The first installment of corporate advance tax falls due on 15 June every year.
Meanwhile, Oil Secretary S Sundareshan today said the government is yet to decide a date for the next meeting of the ministerial panel on fuel pricing. The government, last week, a deferred a decision on decontrol of petrol and diesel prices. It may be recalled that a committee headed by Planning Commission member Kirit Parikh committee had in February 2010 recommended freeing pump prices of petrol and diesel and raising kerosene prices by Rs 6 a litre and cooking gas prices by Rs 100 a cylinder
Industrial output rose much faster than expected at 17.6% in April 2010 from a year earlier on strong consumer demand and government spending. March's annual growth rate was revised upwards to 13.9% from 13.5%. Manufacturing output rose 19.4% in April 2010. The industrial output rose 10.4% in the 2009/10 fiscal year (April-March), faster than the 2.6% clocked in the previous fiscal year.
Investors will also keep a close eye on the progress of the monsoon rains. According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Southwest monsoon was vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala and active over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Telangana and Coastal & North Interior Karnataka during past 24 hours. The Southwest monsoon has further advanced into most parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of North Bay of Bengal, most parts of coastal Orissa, remaining parts of northeastern States, some parts of Gangetic west Bengal and some more parts of Sikkim.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some parts of north Arabian Sea, remaining parts Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, southern parts of Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, some more parts of Orissa and Gengetic West Bengal, remaining parts of Sikkim and some parts of Jharkhand and east Bihar during next 2-3 days.
The June-September monsoon is crucial for the country as it irrigates 60% of farms in India. Monsoon rains had hit Kerala on 31 May 2010, a day ahead of schedule. The south-west monsoon usually covers the entire country by mid-July. The weather office late April 2010 said rainfall is likely to be 98% of the long-term average. Good monsoon rains would help raise farm output, boost rural incomes and lower food inflation.
Last month, Australia's weather bureau said the El Nino weather pattern was over. El Nino is caused by an abnormal warming of the eastern Pacific Ocean and can play havoc with weather patterns across the Asia-Pacific region.
The south west monsoon is important for India as about 60% of the country's farmlands are rain-fed and more than half of the workforce is employed in the agriculture sector. The quantum of rainfall in the crucial sowing month of July and distribution of rainfall during the monsoon season also holds key.
Data this month showed business activity remained strong for India's vast services sector in May 2010, with a key gauge growing for a 13th consecutive month even as some momentum was lost over the previous month. The HSBC-Markit Business Activity Index stood at 58.2 in May 2010 from a 21-month high of 62.1 in April 2010. A reading above 50 indicates expansion. Services make up about 55% of India's $1.2 trillion economy.
HSBC Markit Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), based on a survey of 500 Indian firms, surged to a 27-month high of 59 in May 2010 from 57.2 in April 2010, bolstered by steady growth in output, new orders and employment. The rate of growth had slowed in March 2010 and April 2010.
India's economy grew at 8.6% in the March 2010 quarter driven by robust manufacturing sector on the back of government and consumer spending, data released by the government on Monday, 31 May 2010, showed. The growth was significantly higher than the revised 6.5% expansion in Q3 December 2009 and a 5.8% growth in Q4 March 2009. The manufacturing sector grew 16.3%, farm output rose 0.7%, mining sector expanded 14% and services increased by 8.4% in January-March 2010 quarter from a year earlier.
For the full year to March 2010, the economy expanded 7.4%, above a government forecast of 7.2%. Economic growth had slowed down to 6.7% in year ended March 2009.
The BSE 30-share Sensex was up 282.22 points or 1.65% to 17,347.17, as per provisional closing. The index advanced 286.23 points at the day's high of 17,351.18 at the fag end of the trading session, its highest level since 13 May 2010, The Sensex rose 53.97 points at the day's low of 17,118.74 in early trade.
The S&P CNX Nifty was up 77.70 points or 1.52% to 5,197.05 as per provisional closing. Nifty hit a high of 5,201.25 at the fag end of the trading session, its highest level since 13 May 2010.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE, 1888 shares advanced as compared with 1008 that declined. A total of 95 shares remained unchanged.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 3690 crore
Among the 30-share Sensex pack, 26 advanced while only 4 of them declined.
IT stocks were in demand on upbeat economic data in the US, the biggest market for the Indian IT firms. India's second largest software services exporter by sales Infosys advanced 4.50% to Rs 2,752. It was the top gainer from the Sensex pack.
India's third largest software services exporter by sales Wipro jumped 4.34%. The company has fixed 16 June 2010 as the record date for issue of bonus shares in the ratio of 2:3. India's largest software services exporter by sales TCS rose 3.44%.
HCL Technologies gained 3.20% after the company signed a five year information technology infrastructure outsourcing agreement with Singapore Exchange worth Singapore dollar 110 million. The company made this announcement during trading hours today, 14 June 2010.
Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) shot up 1.65% to Rs 1063.50, extending a near 5% rally in the preceding three trading sessions. RIL after trading hours on Friday, 11 June 2010, said it has acquired a majority stake in Infotel Broadband Services, which on Friday, 11 June 2010, won nationwide licenses to offer broadband services
RIL will invest about Rs 4800 crore by subscribing to the fresh equity capital to be issued by Infotel. Post investment, RIL will own 95% stake in Infotel, making it a subsidiary of RIL.
Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industrial Industries surged 16.85%.
Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) stocks surged on renewed buying following the Ambani brothers' recent agreement to dump their differences and non-compete agreements. Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) (up 17.96%), Reliance MediaWorks (up 11.93%), Reliance Capital (up 6.25%), Reliance Infrastructure (up 3.89%), Reliance Power (up 6.57%) rose.
Telecom stocks saw mixed trend. India's largest listed cellular services provider by sales Bharti Airtel lost 1.77% to Rs 269.70 on profit booking. The stock retreated from day's high of Rs 276. It was the top loser from the Sensex pack.
However, India's second largest listed cellular services provider by sales Reliance Communications gained 3.53% on reports the company may sell a stake in its telecommunications towers unit Reliance Infratel.
India's largest non-ferrous metal producer by sales Sterlite Industries (India) rose 3.38% after the company fixed 22 June 2010 as the record date for a 2-for-1 stock split and a liberal 1:1 bonus issue. The company announced the record date after market hours on 11 June 2010.
India's largest FMCG firm by sales Hindustan Unilever gained 0.65% after the company announced after market hours on 11 June 2010 that its board of directors has approved a proposal for buyback of shares at a price not exceeding Rs 280 per share. The company has set aside Rs 630 crore for buyback.
Banking stocks rose on pick up in credit offtake. India's largest bank in terms of branch network State Bank of India rose 0.38%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. SBI is likely to launch a Rs 20000-crore rights issue in the second half of 2010/11, Chairman O.P. Bhatt said on 9 June 2010.
India's second largest private sector bank by sales HDFC Bank rose 1.62% after its ADR gained 0.95% on Friday, 11 June 2010. India's largest private sector bank by sales ICICI Bank advanced 0.95% after its ADR rose 1.33% on Friday, 11 June 2010.
Auto stocks took a breather on profit booking after recent sharp upmove triggered on the back of robust vehicle sales data for May 2010.
India's top truck maker by sales Tata Motors declined 0.63%. India's largest small car maker by sales Maruti Suzuki India was unchanged at Rs 1357.
India's second largest bike maker by sales Bajaj Auto shed 0.47% to Rs 2283.95. The scrip hit a record high of Rs 2309 in intra-day trade today. India's largest bike maker by sales Hero Honda Motors lost 0.17%.
But, India's largest tractor maker by sales Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) rose 1.44% to Rs 613.10, after striking an all-time high of Rs 616.30. The stock rose today on fresh buying, extending a three-day 5.84% rally.

பொதுத்துறை வெளியீடுகள்:பொதுத்துறை கம்பெனிகள் தங்களின் வெளியீடுகளை கொண்டு வரும் என்றும் அதன் மூலம் அரசிற்கு ஆயிரக்கணக்கான கோடி வருமானம் இருக்கும் என்றும் öŒ#திகள் வந்தன. ஆனால், அவற்றுக்கு மம்தா பானர்ஜி முட்டுக் கட்டை போட்டு விட்டார். ஆதலால், பொதுத்துறை கம்பெனிகளின் பங்கு விற்பனை தற்போது ஒத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. வரவிருந்த கோல் இந்தியா, இந்துஸ்தான் காப்பர் ஆகிய வெளியீடுகளும் தொங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன.ரிலையன்ஸ் பவர் வாங்கிய சுரங்கங்கள் ரிலையன்ஸ் பவர் தனது தேவைகளுக்காக வெளிநாடுகளில் மூன்று நிலக்கரி சுரங்கங்களை 7,500 கோடி ரூபா#களில் வாங்கவுள்ளது. இது அவர்களின் எரிசக்தி தேவையை பூர்த்தி öŒ#ய வருங்காலங்களில் உதவியாக இருக்கும்.இந்த கம்பெனியின் பங்குகள் தற்போது வெளியீட்டு விலையை விட குறைவாக கிடைக்கிறது. நீண்டகால அடிப்படையில் வாங்கி வையுங்கள் என்று முன்னர் கூறியிருந்தோம். அப்படி வாங்கி வைத்தவர்களுக்கு நல்ல லாபங்கள் கிடைத்திருக்கும். தற்போதும் நீண்டகால அடிப்படையில் வாங்கலாம்.அடுத்த வாரம் எப்படி இருக்கும்?சந்தையின் போக்கை வைத்துப் பார்த்தால் சந்தைகள் மேலேயே துவங்க வா#ப்புக்கள் அதிகம். இருந்தாலும் Œசாண் ஏறினால் முழம் வழுக்கும் சந்தையில் நம் கணிப்புக்களை விட ஐரோப்பாவே அதிகம் ஜெயிக்கிறது. காலை சந்தை துவங்கியதிலிருந்து மதியம் ஐரோப்பிய சந்தைகள் துவங்கும் வரை, சந்தை எந்த திசையில் பயணிக்கிறது என்பதையும், குறிப்பிட்ட சில பங்குகளை மட்டும் கணக்கில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அணுகலாம். இது அன்றாட வர்த்தகத்தில் ஈடுபடுபவர்களுக்கு. நீண்ட கால முதலீட்டாளராக இருக்கும்பட்சத்தில் குளம் வற்றிய பிறகு மீன் பிடிக்கலாம் என காத்திருப்பதே நல்லது.

இதன் மூலம், நாட்டின் பெரும்பகுதி பிராட்பேண்ட் சேவை தரும் உரிமம் இன்போடெல் நிறுவனம் மூலம் முகேஷுக்குக் கிடைத்துள்ளது. எனவே செல்போன் மற்றும் பிராட்பேண்ட் இணைப்பு தருவதில் பெரும் பலத்துடன் நுழையவிருக்கிறது ரிலையன்ஸ் நிறுவனம்.

இந்திய மீடியா உலகின் புதிய ஜாம்பவனாகத் திகழும் கலாநிதி மாறன், தனது கல் ஏர்வேஸ் நிறுவனத்தின் சார்பில் ஸ்பைஸ் ஜெட் நிறுவனத்தின் 37 சதவீதப் பங்குகளை ரூ 800 கோடிக்கு வாங்கியுள்ளார்.
இதற்கான ஒப்பந்தம் நேற்று கையெழுத்தானது. இதனை ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் புரமோட்டர்களான வில்பர் ரோஸ் மற்றும் புபேந்திர கன்ஸங்கரா நேற்று அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக அறிவித்தனர்.
"மாறனுக்கும் ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவனத்துக்கும் இடையே இதுகுறித்த ஒப்பந்தம் கையெழுத்தாகியுள்ளது. பங்குகள் பரிவர்த்தனை அடுத்த சில மாதங்களுக்குள் முழுமை பெற்று விடும்" என்று புபேந்திர கன்ஸங்கரா தெரிவித்தார்.
பங்கொன்றுக்கு ரூ 47 வீதம் 37 சதவீத பங்குகளை கல் ஏர்வேஸ் வாங்கியுள்ளது.
ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவனம் குறைந்த கட்டணத்திலான விமானங்களை இயக்கும் தனியார் நிறுவனங்களுள் ஒன்றாகும். இந்நிறுவனத்தில் பூபேந்திர கஸங்கரா மற்றும் வில்புர் ரோஸ் ஆகியோர் அதிக அளவிலான பங்குகளை வைத்துள்ளனர்.
ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவனம் தற்போது விமான சேவையில் 13 சதவீத சந்தையைப் பிடித்துள்ளது. மொத்தம் 129 விமானங்களை இந்நிறுவனம் 18 நகரங்களிடையே இயக்குகிறது. இந்நிறுவனம் வசம் 19 போயிங் விமானங்கள் உள்ளன.
இந்நிறுவனம் வெளிநாடுகளுக்கு விமான சேவையைத் தொடங்கத் திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. முதல் கட்டமாக அண்டை நாடுகளான வங்கதேசம், நேபாளம் ஆகிய நாடுகளுக்கு இம்மாத இறுதிக்குள் விமானங்களை இயக்க உள்ளது.
பங்கு விற்பனை தொடர்பாக ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவன அதிகாரிகள் கருத்து எதையும் தெரிவிக்கவில்லை. இது தொடர்பாக பூபேந்திர கஸங்கராவை தொலைபேசி மூலம் தொடர்பு கொள்ள முயன்றும் அவரைத் தொடர்பு கொள்ள இயலவில்லை.
அதேநேரம் ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவன பங்குகளை வாங்குவது தொடர்பான விவரங்களை சன் டிவி குழும அதிகாரிகள் மறுத்துள்ளனர். கலாநிதி மாறன் மற்றும் உயர் அதிகாரிகளை தொலைபேசி மூலம் தொடர்பு கொள்ள முடியவில்லை.
ஒரு பங்கு ரூ. 45 என்ற விலையில் சுமார் 15 கோடி பங்குகளை கலாநிதி மாறன் வாங்க உள்ளார். இதற்காக அவர் செலவிடும் தொகை ரூ. 700 கோடியாக இருக்கும் என மதிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
கடந்த நான்கு ஆண்டுகளாக உள்நாடு மற்றும் வெளிநாட்டு முதலீட்டாளர்களிடமிருந்து முதலீடுகளை ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவனம் ஈர்த்து வருகிறது. இந்நிறுவனத்தில் 6 சதவீத பங்குகளை டாடா நிறுவனம் 2006-ல் வாங்கியுள்ளது. முதலீட்டாளர் வில்புர் ரோஸ் 2008-ம் ஆண்டு ரூ. 345 கோடி முதலீடு செய்துள்ளார். அதே ஆண்டு கோல்ட்மேன் சாஷ் நிறுவனம் ரூ. 90 கோடி முதலீடு செய்துள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
இந்நிறுவனத்துக்கு முதலீடு தேவையில்லை என்றாலும், பலரிடம் பங்குகள் பரவலாக இருப்பதை விட ஒருவரிடம் அதிகபட்ச பங்குகள் இருப்பது நிறுவனத்துக்கு நல்லது என்று ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவன அதிகாரிகள் கருத்துத் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். அந்த வகையில் கலாநிதி மாறன் இந்நிறுவன பங்குகளை வாங்குவது சிறந்தது என்று கருத்து தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
ஸ்பைஸ்ஜெட் நிறுவனப் பங்குகளை கலாநிதி மாறன் வாங்குவது தொடர்பான செய்தி வெளியான போதிலும் இந்நிறுவனப் பங்குகள் மும்பை பங்குச் சந்தையில் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை சரிவைச் சந்தித்தது. முன்தின வர்த்தகத்தை விட 3 சதவீதம் குறைந்து ரூ. 56.05-க்கு விற்பனையானது.
MARKET REVIEW
The key benchmark indices extended gains for the third straight day, tracking firm world stocks. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) jumped. The company said after trading hours it has acquired a majority stake in Infotel Broadband Services, which today, 11 June 2010, won nationwide licenses to offer broadband services. The BSE Sensex regained the psychological 17,000 mark. Strong industrial production data for April 2010 underpinned sentiment.
Capital goods, auto and banking stocks rose. But, telecom stocks fell. The market breadth was strong. The BSE 30-share Sensex was provisionally up 120.20 points or 0.71%, off close to 90 points from the day's high and up about 50 points from the day's low.
The BSE Sensex regained the psychological 17,000 mark at the onset of the trading session on firm Asian stocks. The market held firm in morning trade. The market extended gains in mid-morning trade on reports of strong industrial production growth in April 2010. The market pared gains in early afternoon trade.after hitting fresh intraday high. Profit booking continued in afternoon trade, but the Sensex held 17,000 mark. The market came off the lower level in mid-afternoon trade.
Industrial output rose much faster than expected at 17.6% in April 2010 from a year earlier on strong consumer demand and government spending, data released by the government today showed. March's annual growth rate was revised upwards to 13.9% from 13.5%. Manufacturing output rose 19.4% in April 2010. The industrial output rose 10.4% in the 2009/10 fiscal year (April-March), faster than the 2.6% clocked in the previous fiscal year.
European shares edged higher on Friday, rising for the third day on optimism over global growth. Key indices in UK, Germany and France rose by 0.03% to 0.78%.
Spain on Thursday sold 3.9 billion euros of a 3-year benchmark bond seeing strong demand, a positive sign for investors worried about appetite for debt from struggling European nations.
Asian stock markets rose Friday, buoyed by optimism that the global economy could weather Europe's debt crisis after China's exports surged and U.S. jobless claims fell. The key benchmark indices in Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore rose by between 0.29% to 1.70%.
Latest data showed China's consumer inflation accelerated to a 19-month high in the year to May while industrial output and fixed-asset investment growth moderated, sending mixed signals about the state of the world's third-largest economy.
Trading in US index futures indicated that the Dow could gain 19 points at the opening bell on Friday, 11 June 2010. US index futures moved between positive and negative zone.
US Stocks jumped on Thursday in response to signs of health in the euro debt markets and as investors accumulated energy shares crushed in the previous day's sell-off. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 273.28 points, or 2.76% to 10,172.53. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 31.15 points, or 2.95% to 1,086.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 59.86 points, or 2.77% to 2,218.71.
A US government reported before the opening bell that the number of new filings for unemployment benefits fell less than expected last week, while the international trade deficit widened slightly in April, pointing to a moderate economic recovery.
Back home, on the macro front, the food price index rose 16.74% in the year to 29 May 2010, higher than the previous week's annual reading of 16.55% as fruits and potato prices rose, data released by the government on Thursday, 10 June 2010, showed. The fuel price index climbed 14.23% compared with an annual rise of 14.14% in the previous week.
India's monsoon delivered normal rainfall in the past week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on 10 June 2010. Rainfall in the seven days to 9 June 2010 recovered to normal after an initial hiccup when cyclone Phet hindered the advance of the June-September monsoon, which irrigates 60% of farms in India. The IMD in its update on Thursday said Southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of Konkan & Goa, south Madhya Maharashtra and north interior Karnataka, remaining parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka, some more parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The June-September monsoon rains hit Kerala on 31 May 2010, a day ahead of schedule. The south-west monsoon usually covers the entire country by mid-July. The weather office late April 2010 said rainfall is likely to be 98% of the long-term average. Good monsoon rains would help raise farm output, boost rural incomes and lower food inflation.
Last month, Australia's weather bureau said the El Nino weather pattern was over. El Nino is caused by an abnormal warming of the eastern Pacific Ocean and can play havoc with weather patterns across the Asia-Pacific region.
The south west monsoon is important for India as about 60% of the country's farmlands are rain-fed and more than half of the workforce is employed in the agriculture sector. The quantum of rainfall in the crucial sowing month of July and distribution of rainfall during the monsoon season also holds key.
Data last week showed business activity remained strong for India's vast services sector in May 2010, with a key gauge growing for a 13th consecutive month even as some momentum was lost over the previous month. The HSBC-Markit Business Activity Index stood at 58.2 in May 2010 from a 21-month high of 62.1 in April 2010. A reading above 50 indicates expansion. Services make up about 55% of India's $1.2 trillion economy.
HSBC Markit Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), based on a survey of 500 Indian firms, surged to a 27-month high of 59 in May 2010 from 57.2 in April 2010, bolstered by steady growth in output, new orders and employment. The rate of growth had slowed in March 2010 and April 2010.
India's economy grew at 8.6% in the March 2010 quarter driven by robust manufacturing sector on the back of government and consumer spending, data released by the government on Monday, 31 May 2010, showed. The growth was significantly higher than the revised 6.5% expansion in Q3 December 2009 and a 5.8% growth in Q4 March 2009. The manufacturing sector grew 16.3%, farm output rose 0.7%, mining sector expanded 14% and services increased by 8.4% in January-March 2010 quarter from a year earlier.
For the full year to March 2010, the economy expanded 7.4%, above a government forecast of 7.2%. Economic growth had slowed down to 6.7% in year ended March 2009.
Investors will eye the first installment of the corporate advance tax payment which will give some clue about Q1 June 2010 corporate results. The first installment of corporate advance tax falls due on 15 June.
Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet on Thursday deferred a decision to sell stake in state-run Coal India and miner Hindustan Copper.
As per provisional figures, the BSE 30-share Sensex was up 120.20 points or 0.71% to 17,042.28. The Sensex rose 209.48 points at the day's high of 17,131.56 in mid-morning trade. The Sensex rose 71.99 points at the day's low of 16,994.07 in early trade.
The S&P CNX Nifty was up 35.60 points or 0.7% to 5114.20 as per provisional figures.
The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.18%. The BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.36%.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE, 1550 shares advanced as compared with 1292 that declined. A total of 109 shares were unchanged. The breadth was much stronger earlier in the day.
From the 30 share Sensex pack, 22 rose and rest fell.
BSE clocked turnover of Rs 4147 crore, higher than Rs 3602.05 crore on Thursday, 10 June 2010.
Copper maker Sterlite Industries fell 1.18%. The company announced during trading hours today that shareholders have approved sub-division of equity shares from Rs 2 each to Rs 1 each at the company's annual general meeting held today. Shareholders have also approved a 1:1 bonus issue on sub-divided equity shares of Rs 1 each.
Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) rose 2.71%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. RIL announced after market hours today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Infotel Broadband Services which has emerged as the successful bidder in all the 22 circles of the auction for broadband wireless access spectrum conducted by Department of Telecommunications.
RIL will invest about Rs 4800 crore by subscribing to the fresh equity capital to be issued by Infotel. Post investment, RIL will own 95% stake in Infotel, making it a subsidiary of RIL.
Earlier, RIL announced during market hours today its sixth oil discovery in exploratory block in the Cambay basin in Gujarat.
Capital goods stocks rose on expectations of continued order flows. Bharat Heavy Electricals Usha Martin, Jyoti Structures, Crompton Greaves, Havells India, BEML, Praj Industries rose by 0.14% to 2.86%.
India's largest engineering and construction firm by sales Larsen & Toubro was flat at Rs 1672. The stock came off the day's high of Rs 1685.85. The company announced during market hours on Thursday it won orders worth Rs 747 crore for metallurgical and material handling projects.
Banking stocks rose on pick up in credit offtake. India's second largest private sector bank by sales HDFC Bank rose 0.98%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day as its ADR rose 4.99% on Thursday, 10 June 2010.
India's largest bank in terms of branch network State Bank of India rose 0.56%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. Shares of India's largest listed mobile telecom services provider by sales Bharti Airtel fell 3.42% on profit taking. Bharti today said it had secured broadband spectrum in select circles to experiment with new technologies. Bharti will pay a total of Rs 3314 crore for the spectrum, it said. The Bharti Airtel stock had surged sharply over the past two trading sessions after company announced the completion of the acquisition of Zain Group's (Zain) mobile operations in 15 countries across Africa for an enterprise valuation of $10.7 billion.
India's second largest listed mobile telecom services provider by sales Reliance Communications (RCom) fell 1.03%. India's third largest listed mobile telecom services provider by sales Idea Cellular fell 1.63%.
RCom today said it would focus on wireless broadband through its CDMA network and the 3G spectrum it had won in a recent auction.
Auto stocks extended recent gains on robust vehicle sales in the month of May 2010. India's largest tractor maker by sales Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) rose 1.88%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. The stock was the top gainer from the Sensex pack. M&M's auto sales rose 69% to 28,486 units in May 2010 over May 2009.
India's largest small car maker by sales Maruti Suzuki India rose 0.32%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. Maruti's total sales rose 27.90% to 102,175 units in May 2010 over May 2009. The company's domestic sales rose 27.2% to 90,041 units in May 2010 over May 2009. This is highest ever monthly domestic sales. Exports increased 33.5% to 12,134 units in May 2010 over May 2009. The company announced the sales figures on 1 June 2010.
India's top truck maker by sales Tata Motors rose 0.45%, extending Thursday's 4.31% gains. Its ADR rose 4.38% on Thursday, 10 June 2010. The company reported 41% growth in vehicle sales in May 2010 over May 2009. The company sold 56,779 units in May 2010 as against 40,196 units sold in May 2009. The company unveiled the monthly sales data on 1 June 2010.
Car sales rose an annual 30.4% in May 2010, an industry body said on Wednesday. Domestic firms sold 1,48,481 cars in the month, compared with 1,13,810 units a year ago, data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) showed. Sales of trucks and buses, a barometer of economic activity, rose 58% to 48,580 units in May 2010, Siam said.
India's largest bike maker by sales Hero Honda Motors rose 0.33%, extending Thursday's 4.14% gains. The company recently raised prices of its products by up to Rs 1,000 due to rising input costs.
Bajaj Auto rose 2.28% to Rs 2294.70. It hit a record high of Rs 2304.90 today.
Standard Chartered PLC's Indian depository receipts settled at Rs 103.05 on BSE, at a discount of 0.91% to the issue price of Rs 104. The IDR debuted at Rs 105, a 0.96% premium to the issue price. It hit a high of Rs 108 and low of Rs 100.60. A total of 1.98 crore IDRs were traded in early trade on the BSE.
