தனியார் இன்சூரன்ஸ் துறையில் முன்னணியில் உள்ள ரிலையன்ஸ் லைப் இன்சூரன்ஸ் நிறுவனம், 6 மில்லியன் பாலிசிதாரர்கள் என்ற மைல்கல்லை எட்டியுள்ளது. ரிலையன்ஸ் அனில் திருபாய் அம்பானி குழுமத்தின் ஒரு அங்கமான ரிலையன்ஸ் லைப் இன்சூரன்ஸ் நிறுவனம், 6 மில்லியன் பாலிசிதாரர்களைக் கொண்டதாக விளங்குவது மகிழ்ச்சியளிப்பதாக ரிலையன்ஸ் லைப் இன்சூரன்ஸ் பிரிவின் தலைவர் மலாய் கோஷ் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இதுகுறித்து அவர் வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில் தெரிவித்துள்ளதாவது : தாங்கள் லைப் இன்சூரன்ஸ் பிரிவை துவக்கிய இந்த குறுகிய காலத்திலேயே இந்த மைல் கல்லை எட்டியிருப்பது மகிழ்ச்சியளிக்கிறது என்றும், இதன்மூலம் அடுத்த 2 ஆண்டுகளில் தங்களது நிறுவனத்திற்கு ரூபாய் 20 ஆயிரம் கோடி பிரீமியம் தொகையாக கிடைக்கும் என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார். 2009-10ம் ஆண்டில் மட்டும், தங்கள் நிறுவனம் 2.3 மில்லியன் பாலிசிதாரர்களை சேர்த்துள்ளது என்றும், இது இன்சூரன்ஸ் வரலாற்றிலேயே மிக்பபெரிய விஷயம் என்றும், இதன் மூலம் அடுத்த 2 நிதியாண்டுகளில் ரூ.30 ஆயிரம் கோடி பிரீமியம் பெற வாய்ப்புள்ளதாக அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.
கார்களின் உற்பத்திக்குத் தேவையான மூலப்பொருட்களின் விலை உயர்வு காரணமாக, கார்களின் விலைகளை இந்த ஆண்டில் நான்காவது முறையாக உயர்த்த டொயட்டோ, ஜெனரல் மோட்டார்ஸ் மற்றும் போர்டு நிறுவனங்கள் முடிவு செய்துள்ளன. இதுகுறித்து அந்த நிறுவனங்கள் வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில் தெரிவி்த்துள்ளதாவது : மூல்பபொருட்களின் விலை உயர்வு, சரியான லாபமின்மை, பொருளாதார ஏற்றத்தாழ்வு உள்ளிட்ட காரணிகளால் தாங்கள் மிகவும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும், இதிலிருந்து மீளவே, இந்த விலை உயர்வு என்று அந்த அறிக்கையில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கார்களின் விலை உயர்வு 1,500 ரூபாயில் இருந்து 20 ஆயிரம் வரை இருக்கும் என்றும், சதவீதத்தின் அடிப்படையில், 0.5 முதல் 3 சதவீதம் வரை இருக்கும் என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளது. டொயட்டோ நிறுவனத்தின் இன்னோவா கார் ரூ. 10ஆயிரம் அதிகரித்திருப்பதாகவும், கரோலா ஆல்டிஸ் காரின் விலை 1.5 சதவீதம் அதிகரித்து ரூ.15 ஆயிரம் அதிகரிக்க இருப்பதாகவும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த விலை உயர்வு அடுத்த வாரம் முதல் அமலுக்கு வர இருப்பதாக டொயட்டோ நிறுவனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

முழு கணினி மாவட்ட திட்டத்தை மத்திய தொலைத்தொடர்பு மற்றும் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறை அமைச்சர் ராஜா துவக்கி வைத்து பேசியதாவது:இந்தியாவில் 12 ஆயிரம் கோடி ரூபாய் செலவில் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப வங்கி உருவாக்க திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் ஒரு லட்சம் கிராமங்களில் பொதுச் சேவை மையங்கள் அமைக்கப்படும். இந்தியாவில் 50 மாவட்டங்கள் மின்னாளுமை மாவட்டங்களாக மாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளன. இதில், தமிழகத்தில் ஆறு மாவட்டங்கள் மாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளன; இதில் நீலகிரியும் ஒன்று.ஊட்டியில் 40 கோடி ரூபாய் செலவில் தேசிய தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப ஆராய்ச்சி மையம் அமைக்கப்பட உள்ளது. அரசு ஆண்டுதோறும் 150 கோடி ரூபாயை தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு செலவிடுகிறது. ஆராய்ச்சிக்காக தனியார் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு 50 லட்சம் ரூபாய் முதல் இரண்டு கோடி ரூபாய் வரை வழங்கி வருகிறது. ஆராய்ச்சி ஒரே நிறுவனத்தின் கீழ் நடக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக, தேசிய தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப ஆராய்ச்சி மையம் அமைக்க முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. நீலகிரியில் ஐந்து அஞ்சலகங்கள் முழுமையாக கணினிமயமாக்கப்பட்டன. தற்போது நீலகிரி எம்.பி., தொகுதிக்கு உட்பட்ட 30 அஞ்சலகங்கள், ஐந்து கோடி ரூபாய் செலவில் புதுப்பிக்கப்படும்.இந்திய தொலைத்தொடர்பு துறை மூலம் 2012ம் ஆண்டு, 60 கோடி தொலைபேசி இணைப்புகள் வழங்க இலக்கு நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால், இந்த இலக்கு, கடந்து இரு மாதங்களுக்கு முன்னரே குறியீட்டை அடைந்து விட்டது. மேலும், ஆண்டுதோறும் 75 லட்சம் மொபைல் போன் இணைப்புகளுக்கு இலக்கு நிர்ணயக்கப்பட்டிருந்த நிலையில் ஒரு கோடியே 20 லட்சம் இணைப்புகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. தொலைத்தொடர்புத் துறையில் பெரும் புரட்சியாக, ஒரு மாதத்துக்கு இரண்டு கோடி இணைப்புகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.இவ்வாறு அமைச்சர் ராஜா பேசினார்.

சர்வதேச அளவில், வளர்ச்சியில் இரண்டாம் இடத்தில் உள்ள இந்தியா, இந்த 2010ம் ஆண்டில் 9.5 சதவீத வளர்ச்சியடையும் என்று இண்டர்நேஷனல் மானிடரி பண்ட் (ஐஎம்எப்) தெரிவித்துள்ளது. இந்த ஆண்டில் நேரடி வரி வசூல் அதிகரி்த்துள்ளதால், நிதி பற்றாக்குறை ஏற்படுவதற்கு வாய்ப்பில்லை என்றும், நிறவனங்களின் செயல்பாடு திருப்திகரமாக இருப்பதால், உள்நாட்டு உற்பத்தி எதிர்பார்த்ததை விட அதிகமாக இருக்கும் என்றும், ஐஎம்எப், இதற்கு முன் அளித்த தகவலின்படி 8.8 சதவீத வளர்ச்சி இந்தியாவில் இருக்கும் என்று தெரிவித்திருந்தது. ஆனால் அதனை தற்போது மறுமதிப்பீடு செய்து 9.5 சதவீதமாக வளர்ச்சி இருக்கும் என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளது. சர்வதேச அளவில், உள்நாட்டு உற்பத்தி வளர்ச்சியில் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ள சீனாவின் வளர்ச்சி 10.5 சதவீதமாக இருக்கும் என்று அது தெரிவித்துள்ளது. ஜப்பானின் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி 1.9 சதவீதத்தில் இருந்து 2.4 சதவீதமாக உயரும் என்றும், இந்தியா, சீனா உள்ளிட்ட நாடுகளில் காணப்படும் முன்னேற்றமான சூழ்நிலைகளால், ஆசிய நாடுகளின் வளர்ச்சி குறித்த கண்ணோட்டம், உலக நாடுகளிடையே திரும்பி பார்க்க வைத்துள்ளதாக ஐஎம்எப் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
கன்வெர்ஜ்டு இன்ப்ராஸ்டரெக்சர் கட்டமைப்பு திறனை அதிகரிப்பதற்காக சிம்பிலிபை சர்வர் கனெக்டிவிட்டி மூலம் பெறக்கூடிய ஹை பெர்பார்மன்ஸ் நெட்வொர்க் சொல்யூசன்சை ஹெவ்லெட் -பெக்யார்டு (ஹெச்பி) நிறுவனம் அறிமுகம் செய்துள்ளது. இந்த புதிய சொல்யூசன், ( ஈத்தர்யநட் மாடியூல் மீதான பைபர் சேனல்) அப்ளிகேஷன் அவில்யபிலிட்டியை அதிகரிக்கும் வகையில் வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டது என்றும், இதன்மூலம் டிப்ளாய்ன்மெண்ட் பிளெக்சிபிலிட்டி அதிகரிப்பதாகவும், நெட்வொர்க் இன்ப்ராஸ்டிரக்சருக்கான செலவு 30 முதல் 65 சதவீதம் வரை குறைவதாகவும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஹெச்பி நிறுவனம், ஐபெர்பார்மன்ஸ் நெட்வொர்க் சொல்யூசன்ஸ் மட்டுமல்லாமல், செக்யூரிட்டி சொல்யூசனையும் அறிமுகப்படுத்தியிருப்பதாகவும், இதன்மூலம், நெட்வொர்க் தொடர்புகள், எவ்வித பிசிக்கல் மற்றும் விர்சுவல் காரணிகளால் டேட்டாக்கள் பாதிக்கப்படா வண்ணம் வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாக அந்த நிறுவனம் வெளியிட்டுள்ள செய்திக்குறிப்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
தனியார் துறை வங்கியான இந்துஸ்இண்ட் வங்கி, நடப்பு நிதியாண்டின் முதல் காலாண்டில் (ஏப்ரல்-ஜூன்) ரூ. 118.55 கோடியை நிகர லாபமாக ஈட்டியுள்ளது. இது, சென்ற நிதியாண்டின் இதே காலாண்டில், ரூ. 86.50 கோடியாக இருந்தது. இதே காலாண்டுகளில், வங்கியின் வட்டி வருவாய் ரூ. 628.83 கோடியில் இருந்து 771.54 கோடியாக அதிகரித்தது. வங்கியின் வட்டிச் செலவீனம் ரூ. 461.46 கோடியில் இருந்து 475.86 கோடியாக உயர்ந்துள்ளது.
சரக்குகள் மற்றும் சேவை வரி(ஜிஎஸ்டி )விதிப்பை அமல்படுத்துவதற்கான சட்டதிருத்தம் குறித்து விவாதிப்பதற்காக மாநில நிதியமைச்சர்கள் கூட்டத்தைக் கூட்டியுள்ளார் மத்திய நிதியமைச்சர் பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி. ஜிஎஸ்டி நேரடி வரி விதிப்பினால் மாநிலங்களுக்கு கிடைக்கக்கூடிய வருவாயில் இழப்பு ஏற்படும் என்பதால், அதனை ஈடுகட்ட தங்களுக்கு இழப்பீடு தொகை அளிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று பல்வேறு மாநிலங்களும் மத்திய அரசை வலியுறுத்தி வருகின்றன. இந்நிலையில் ஜிஎஸ்டி நேரடி வரி விதிப்பை அமல்படுத்துவதற்கான சட்டதிருத்தம் மற்றும் அதனால் ஏற்படக்கூடிய வருவாய் இழப்பை ஈடுகட்டுவதற்காக அளிக்கப்பட வேண்டிய இழப்பீட்டு சலுகைகள் ஆகியவை குறித்து மாநில நிதியமைச்சர்களுடன் ஆலோசிக்க பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி முடிவு செய்துள்ளார். இதற்காக வருகிற ஜூலை 21 ஆம் தேதியன்று தாம் கூட்டியுள்ள கூட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொள்ள வருமாறு அனைத்து மாநில நிதியமைச்சர்களுக்கும் அவர் அழைப்புவிடுத்துள்ளார். இத்தகவலை மத்திய நிதியமைச்சக மூத்த அதிகாரி ஒருவர் டில்லியில் பத்திரிகையாளர்களிடம் தெரிவித்தார்.
இந்தியாவில் மருத்துவத்துறையில், தனக்கென்று ஒரு நிலையான இடத்தைப் பிடித்துள்ள அப்பல்லோ ஹாஸ்பிட்டல்ஸ் குழுமம், ரூ.1800 கோடி முதலீட்டில் விரிவாக்கம் செய்ய இருப்பதாகவும், இன்னும் 4 ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் 23 ஆயிரம் பேரை புதிதாக பணியமர்த்த தி்ட்டமிட்டுள்ளதாக அப்பல்லோ குழும ( செயல்பாடுகள்) நிர்வாக இயக்குனர் சங்கீதா ரெட்டி தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இதுகுறித்து அவர் கூறுகையில் , தங்கள் குழுமம், தற்போது வெற்றிப்பாதையில் சென்று கொண்டிருப்பதாகவும், தங்களை நம்பி வரும் அனைவருக்கும் சிறந்த சிகிச்சை அளிப்பதன் மூலமாக, இந்த வெற்றி சாத்தியமாகி உள்ளதாக அவர் தெரிவித்தார். மருத்துவமனைகளின் செயல்பாடுகளின் விரிவாக்கத்திற்காக ரூ.1800 கோடி ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும், தங்களது குழுமத்தில் பணியாற்றும் ஊழியர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையை கணிசமாக உயர்த்த தி்ட்டமிட்டுள்ளதாகவும், அதன்படி இன்னும் 4 ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் 23 ஆயிரம் பேரை புதிதாக பணியமர்த்த திட்டமிட்டுள்ளதாக அவர் தெரிவித்தார். தற்போதைய அளவில் தங்கள் குழுமத்தில் 62 ஆயிரம் ஊழியர்கள் பணியாற்றி வருவதாகவும், இன்னும் சில ஆண்டுகளில் இவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை 85 ஆயிரமாக உயர்த்தப்படும் என்றும், தற்போது அதிகபட்சமாக, தங்களது குழும மருத்துவமனைகளில் 9 ஆயிரம் படுக்கை (பெட்) வசதிகள் இருப்பதாகவும், 2015ம் ஆண்டுக்குள் இந்த மருத்துவமனைகள் 12 படுக்கைகள் கொண்ட மருத்துவமனைகளாக தரம் உயர்த்தப்படும் என்றும், இலங்கையில் மீண்டும் மருத்துவ சேவையை மேற்கொள்ள திட்டமிட்டுள்ளதாக அவர் தெரிவித்தார். கடந்த 4 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பாக, இலங்கையில் நடைபெற்ற உள்நாட்டுப் போரின் காரணமாக ஏற்பட்ட அசாதாரண சூழ்நிலை காரணமாக இலங்கையில் இருந்து வெளியேற வேண்டிய சூழ்நிலை ஏற்பட்டதாகவும், தற்போது அங்கு அமைதி திரும்பியுள்ளதால், மீண்டும் அந்த நாட்டில் மருத்துவ சேவையை துவங்க திட்டமிட்டுள்ளதாகவும், இதற்கான பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடைபெற்று வருவதாக அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

The key benchmark indices extended gains to hit fresh intraday highs in late trade as European stocks and US index futures jumped. The S&P CNX Nifty hit its highest level in more than 29 months. Realty shares jumped in late trade on speculation the government will soon announce a hike in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the real-estate sector. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) surged.
But, IT stocks fell as Infosys warned that the global economic environment continues to be uncertain, even though the company raised its full-year revenue and profit forecasts at the time of announcing Q1 June 2010 results today. Banking and capital goods stocks rose.
The BSE 30-share Sensex was provisionally up 46.02 points or 0.26%, up close to 130 points from the day's low and off close to 15 points from the day's high. The Mid-cap and Small-cap indices on BSE outperformed the Sensex.
A bout of volatility was witnessed at the onset of the trading session as the key benchmark indices slipped into the red after recovering from an initial slide. The Sensex recovered from lower level in morning trade after hitting a fresh intraday low. The market moved in a narrow range in mid-morning trade. The market hit a fresh intraday lows in early afternoon trade led by decline in IT stocks. The market recovered from lower level in afternoon trade after hitting a fresh intraady low. The market moved into positive zone, with the key benchmark indices hitting fresh intraday highs in mid-afternoon trade. The market extended gains in late trade.
The government today set up a committee headed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Shyamala Gopinath to review the structure of National Small Savings Fund (NSSF). The panel will review the existing terms of loans extended from the NSSF to the centre and states and recommend the changes required in the arrangement of lending the net collection of small savings to centre and states.
The panel has been set up following the recommendation of the Thirteenth Finance Commission which suggested debt relief to states by re-setting loans to states at a common interest rate of 9% in place of the current 10.5% and 9.5%. The panel will also recommend ways to make small saving plans more market-linked and other investment opportunities for the fund collections. While making its recommendations, the committee is expected to consider the importance of small savings within the overall savings in the economy especially its contribution in promoting savings amongst small investors and need of NSSF to be a viable fund, the government said in the release.
European shares surged, extending a rally into a sixth session, after Alcoa got the second-quarter US earnings season off to a strong start. The key benchmark indices in UK, France and Germany were up by 1.36% to 1.53%
Moody's Investor Service on Tuesday downgraded Portugal's bond ratings two notches to A1 from Aa2, with the ratings outlook stable. Moody's said the Portugal government's financial strength will continue to weaken over the medium term, as evidenced by ongoing deterioration in the country's debt metrics. Moody's had placed Portugal's bond ratings on review for possible downgrade on 5 May 2010.
Asian markets declined on Tuesday, 13 July 2010, as a tumble in Chinese stocks tempered optimism from US aluminum maker Alcoa's earnings. The key benchmark indices in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan fell by between 0.11% to 0.55%. China's Shanghai Composite fell 1.62% after the Chinese government quashed speculation it will abandon real-estate curbs that drove property prices to snap 15 months of gains. The key benchmark indices in Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea rose by between 0.06% to 0.12%.
The Chinese government denied an unsourced report in the state-run Securities Times Monday that China had loosened some controls on mortgage lending in first-tier cities. In response to the newspaper report, China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development late Monday said it would strictly carry out differentiated mortgage policies to support reasonable housing consumption in households, while also resolutely curbing investment and speculative types of property purchases.
US index futures reversed initial losses. Trading in US index futures indicated that the Dow could rise 52 points at the opening bell on Tuesday, 13 July 2010.
Caution prevailed in the US stock market on Monday, 12 July 2010, with indexes edging higher as investors reserved their bets ahead of the onset of the earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 18.24 points, or 0.18% to end at 10,216.27. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index edged up just 0.79 of a point, or 0.07% to 1,078.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1.91 points, or 0.09% to close at 2,198.36. Dow component Alcoa Inc reported its second-quarter results after the closing bell. The aluminum producer reported a second-quarter profit as sales rose 22%.
Back home, the revived monsoon rains in India accelerated the planting of rice, oilseeds and cotton last week. The area under rice cultivation jumped 56% to 7.2 million hectares on 9 July 2010 while cotton planting rose by half, during the week, compared with the previous week, as monsoon rains were 2% above normal, ending a two-week dry spell since 18 June 2010. Rainfall was 16% below average in June 2010. The shortfall narrowed to 10% last week.
While total rainfall since 1 June 2010 is now 13% below normal, key crop areas such as rice-growing Punjab and Haryana and soybean-growing Madhya Pradesh have received adequate rains.
The weather office in its daily update on Monday, 12 July 2010, said the southwest monsoon was vigorous over Chhattisgarh and was active over Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Telangana during past 24 hours. Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours and decrease thereafter, the India Meterological Department (IMD) said. Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over northeastern states, Lakshadweep, West Coast, it said.

Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rayalaseema, interior Karnataka, Orissa, and Tamilnadu, the IMD said.
IMD expects fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, northeastern states and west coast, this week.
The south west monsoon is important for India as about 60% of the country's farmlands are rain-fed and more than half of the workforce is employed in the agriculture sector. The south-west monsoon usually covers the entire country by mid-July. The weather office expects this year's monsoon rains to be at 102% of the long-period average. Good monsoon rains would help raise farm output, boost rural incomes and lower food inflation.
Industrial output in May 2010 rose at a slower-than-expected 11.5% from a year earlier, data showed on Monday, 12 July 2010. Manufacturing output rose an annual 12.3%, the statistics office said. Mining output was up 8.7% and power generation rose 6.4%. Production of capital goods rose 34.3% year-on-year after an annual rise of 72.8% in April 2010, while consumer durables output grew 23.7%, down from a 37% rise in the previous month
April's industrial production growth was revised downwards to 16.5% from 17.6%.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday, 8 July 2010 raised its world output forecast for 2010, citing solid growth in the first half, especially in Asia, but warned of significant downside risks flowing from Europe. The IMF revised its 2010 world gross domestic product forecast to 4.6%, up from a previous forecast in April of 4.2%. The 2011 GDP forecast was unchanged at 4.3%.
The IMF raised India's growth forecast for 2010 to 9.5%, stating that favourable financing conditions and robust corporate profits will accelerate economic expansion. The IMF expects India's economy to grow 8.5% in 2011.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 2 July 2010, hiked the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5% from 5.25%, with immediate effect. It also hiked the reverse repo rate, at which it absorbs excess cash from the banking system, by an equal 25 basis points to 4% from 3.75%. The central bank said the latest rate hike is a part of the calibrated exit from the expansionary monetary policy.
Two-thirds of WPI inflation in May 2010 was contributed by non-food items, suggesting that inflation is now very much generalised and that demand-side pressures are evident, the central bank said in a statement. WPI inflation increased to 10.2% in May 2010, up from 9.6% in April 2010.
In its April 2010 policy review, the Reserve Bank projected real GDP growth for 2010-11 at 8% with an upside bias. More recent data suggest that the upside bias has largely materialized, the central bank on 2 July 2010. The growth projection will be reviewed in the first quarter review on 27 July 2010, RBI said.
Analysts expect a further 25 basis points hike in short term interest rates by the central bank at the policy review later this month. Meanwhile, the government will announce the inflation data for the month of June 2010 on Wednesday, 14 July 2010.
As per provisional figures, the BSE 30-share Sensex was up 46.02 points or 0.26% at 17,983.22. The index fell 81.35 points at the day's low of 17,855.85 in early afternoon trade. The Sensex rose 60.84 points at the day's high of 17,998.04 in late trade.
The S&P CNX Nifty was up 19 points or 0.35% at 5,402 as per provisional figures. It hit a high of 5,406.20 in late trade, its highest since 6 February 2008.
The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.74%. The BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.74%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The market breadth, indicating the strength of the broader market, was strong. On BSE, 1,727 shares advanced while 1,231 shares declined. A total of 85 shares remained unchanged.
From the 30 share Sensex pack, 16 stocks rose and rest fell.

Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) rose 1.92%. RIL and Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) on 25 June 2010, entered into a new gas supply agreement, as directed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had ordered the two companies to renegotiate the Gas Supply Master Agreement, which was signed between the Ambani brothers as part of the business demerger in 2005. RIL also recently announced its seventh oil discovery in Cambay basin in Gujarat.
Infosys was down 3.72% and was the top loser from the Sensex pack. The Infosys stock had hit a record high of Rs 2,911.55 on Monday, 12 July 2010, ahead of the first quarter results. The IT bellwether has revised upwards its earnings and revenue guidance in both rupee and dollar terms for the year ending March 2011 (FY 2011).
Infosys' consolidated net profit as per International Financial Reporting Standards (IRFS) declined 7% to Rs 1488 crore on 4.3% increase in revenue to Rs 6198 crore in Q1 June 2010 over Q4 March 2010. Operating profit declined 1.9% to Rs 1755 crore in Q1 June 2010 over Q4 March 2010. The operating profit margin (OPM) declined to 28.31% in Q1 June 2010 from 30.09% in Q4 March 2010. During the quarter, the company and its subsidiaries hired as many as 8,859 employees in total, but the net addition to its headcount was just 1,026.
Infosys now expects a between 6.1% to 10.5% growth in earnings per American depository share (ADS) at between $2.42 to $2.52 for the year ended March 2011 (FY 2011) over the year ended March 2010 (FY 2010). At the time of announcing Q4 March 2010 results in April this year, the IT bellwether had forecast a between 5.3% to 9.6% growth in earnings per American depository share (ADS) in FY 2011 over FY 2010.
Infosys now expects a between 3.7% to7.9% growth in EPS in rupee terms at between Rs 112.21 to Rs 116.73 for FY 2011. At the time of announcing Q4 March 2010 results in April this year, the IT bellwether had forecast a 1.2% decline to a growth of 2.9% EPS at between Rs 106.82 to Rs 111.28 for FY 2011.
As far as the top line is concerned, Infosys now expects a 19% to 21% growth on consolidated revenue in dollar terms at between $5.72 billion to $ 5.81 billion for FY 2011. At the time of announcing Q4 March 2010 results in early April 2010, Infosys had projected a between 16% to 18% growth in consolidated revenue in dollar terms at between $5.57 billion to $5.67 billion for FY 2011.
Infosys now expects 16.3% to 18.2% growth in revenue in rupee terms at between Rs 26441 crore to Rs. 26885 crore for FY 2011. At the time of announcing Q4 March 2010 results in early April 2010, Infosys had projected a between 9% to 11% growth in consolidated revenue at between Rs 24796 crore to 25239 crore for FY 2011.
The upward revision in guidance in earnings and revenue in rupee terms appears to be mainly due to weakness in the rupee when compared to the previous guidance. The previous guidance was based rupee dollar exchange rate at 44.50 whereas the current guidance is based on rupee dollar exchange rate of 46.45.
India's third largest IT exporter by sales Wipro fell 0.96%. India's largest IT exporter by sales TCS fell 2.08%. TCS will announce its Q1 result on Thursday, 15 July 2010.
Consumer durables stocks rose on bargain hunting. Gitanjali Gems, Videocon Industries and Titan Industries were up by between 0.14% to 7.46%.
Capital goods stocks rose on hopes of strong order flow in a fast rebounding economy and on the government's thrust on the infrastructure sector. Siemens, Praj Industries, Bharat Heavy Elecricals, Larsen & Toubro, SKF India, Crompton Greaves rose by between 0.45% to 2.05%.
Interest rate sensitive realty stocks jumped on speculation that the government will soon announce a hike in foreign direct investment in the real-estate sector. Sobha Developers, Unitech, Omaxe, Phoenix Mills, HDIL, DLF, Ansal Properties rose by between 2.25% to 6.3%.
FMCG stocks fell on profit taking. ITC, Hindustan Unilever, and Nestle India, United Spirits fell by between 0.04% to 0.99%.
Bank stocks rose on a pick up in credit offtake. India's second largest private sector bank by operating income HDFC Bank rose 0.89% with the stock gaining for the fourth straight day. The stock hit the record high of Rs 2,073 today. HDFC Bank announced during market hours on Thursday, 8 July 2010 that the bank has issued on a private placement basis unsecured, redeemable, non-convertible, subordinated bonds in the nature of debentures towards Tier-II Capital for an amount aggregating Rs 1105 crore. HDFC Bank, recently set its base rate at 7.25%.
India's biggest commercial bank in terms of branch network, State Bank of India, rose 1.48%, with the stock gaining for the fourth straight day. SBI announced recently it has fixed the base rate at 7.5% per annum with effect from 1 July 2010.
Among other PSU stocks, Bank of India and Punjab National Bank rose by between 0.01% to 1.93%. But, Bank of Baroda fell 0.15%.
India's largest private sector bank by market capitalisation ICICI Bank rose 1.02%, with the stock gaining for the fourth straight day. The bank on Friday, 9 July 2010, announced the pricing of an international bond offering of $500 million. The bank recently set its base rate for loans at 7.5%, effective 1 July 2010 as part of a new rule to set minimum lending rates.
The Reserve Bank of India introduced the new lending rate system with effect from 1 July 2010 to ensure that larger borrowers do not bargain for cheaper rates from banks, distorting their asset liability management.
India's largest dedicated housing finance firm by revenue HDFC rose 2.01%, with the stock gaining for the fourth straight day. The stock today hit a 52-week high Rs 3,071.65. The lender will announce its Q1 result tomorrow, 14 July 2010. HDFC recently launched Dual Rate Product - 3, a special home loan product at a fixed rate of 8.25% per annum up to 31 March 2011, 9.25% for the period between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2012 and the applicable floating rate for the balance term. This special offer is applicable to all new home loan customers who apply before 31 August 2010 and take at least part disbursement before 30 September 2010, HDFC said.
Spanco gained 2.07%, after the company won a contract to create information technology infrastructure and deploy library management systems for Anna Centenary Library at Chennai.

Essar Oil on 9 July 2010 issued second tranche of foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs) due September 2028 aggregating to $147 million to promoter company, Essar Energy Holdings for part financing its expansion programmes. The FCCBs are convertible into Global Depository Shares (GDSs) or equity shares, at the option of the bondholders, at a conversion price of Rs 153 per share.
Hotel Leelaventures promoters are reported to be ramping up their stake in the hotel firm to ward off a possible takeover bid by ITC. Meanwhile, Hotel Leelaventures board meets on 13 July 2010 to discuss the issue of preferential warrants to the promoters.

கடந்த ஆண்டு இதே காலகட்டத்தைக் காட்டிலும் இது 2.1 சதவீதம் அதிகமாகும்.
மூலதன, நுகர்பொருள் உற்பத்தியில் தொடர்ந்து நல்ல முன்னேற்றம் காணப்படுகிறது.
உற்பத்தித் துறையில் 80 சதவீத பொருள்களின் உற்பத்தி அளவு 12.3 சதவீதமாக உள்ளது. இதுவே கடந்த ஆண்டு 1.8 சதவீதமாக இருந்தது நினைவு கூறத்தக்கது.
மூலனதப் பொருள் உற்பத்தியில் 34.3 சதவீத வளர்ச்சி காணப்பட்டுள்ளது. கடந்த ஆண்டு இதே மே மாதம் -3.6 சதவீதமாக இருந்தது.
மின்துறையில்தான் இரட்டை இலக்க வளர்ச்சி எட்டப்படவில்லை. ஆனாலும் திருப்தி தரும் வகையில் 8.7 சத வளர்ச்சி காணப்பட்டுள்ளது.

பராமரிப்பு மற்றும் காலதாமதத்தால் மார்க்கெட்டில் பங்குகளை இழப்பது சகஜம். ஆனால் கடந்த 6 மாதங்களாகவே மாருதியின் நிலைமை கீழ்நோக்கியே போய்க் கொண்டிருக்கிறது.
எப்பொழுதும் பெருகிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் சிறிய ரக கார்கள் தயாரிப்பில் குறுகிய காலத்தில் நிறைய பிரான்ட்கள் வருகின்றன. இது மாருதியும் அறிந்ததே. மாருதியின் நிலைமை யாருக்கு வேண்டுமானாலும் வரலாம் என்று கார் நிபுணர் ஒருவர் கூறினார்.

மத்திய அரசு வழங்கும் மானியத்தால் எண்ணெய் நிறுவனங்களின் லாபம்தான் அதிகரிக்கிறது. லாபம் சம்பாதிக்கும் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு எதற்கு மானியம்?.
எண்ணெய் நிறுவனங்கள் இப்போது லாபத்தில் செயல்படத் தொடங்கியுள்ளன. ஆனால் இப்போதும் அவற்றை வீழ்ச்சியில் இருந்து மீட்பதாக மத்திய அரசு கூறி வருகிறது. 2009-10ம் ஆண்டில் இந்தியன் ஆயில் நிறுவனம் ரூ. 10,220 கோடி லாபம் ஈட்டியுள்ளது. அரசு வழங்கும் அதிகபடியான மானியம் தான் இவ்வளவு அதிக லாபத்துக்கு முக்கியக் காரணம்.
ஆனால், பள்ளிகள் மற்றும் மருத்துவமனைகளுக்கு இந்த மானியத்தை மத்திய அரசுவழங்கினால் அது மக்களுக்கு மிகவும் உபயோகமாக இருக்கும்.
பொதுமக்கள் தங்களது பைக், கார்கள் போன்றவற்றை போக்குவரத்துக்கு பயன்படுத்துவதைத் தவிர்த்து, முடிந்த அளவுக்கு பேருந்து, ரயில் போன்றவற்றை பயன்படுத்த அரசு அதிக முயற்சி மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும்..." என்றார் அலுவாலியா.

அண்மையில் மத்திய சாலைப் போக்குவரத்துத் துறை அமைச்சர் கமல்நாத், "திட்டக்குழு கட்டளையிடும் அதிகார அமைப்பாகத்தான் உள்ளது; அதன் செயல்பாடுகள் சிறப்பாக இல்லை. மான்டேக் சிங் அலுவாலியா ஏசி ரூமில் சேரில் அமர்ந்து கொண்டு கட்டளைகள் பிறப்பிக்கத் தான் லாயக்கு என்று கடுமையாக விமர்சித்திருந்தார்.
இதுகுறித்து கரன் தாப்பக் அலுவாலியாவிடம் கேட்டதற்கு அவர் பதிலளிக்கையில்,
"ரோடு போட தெரிந்தவர்களை மட்டும் (சாலைப் போக்குவரத்து அமைச்சர் கமல் நாத்தை மறைமுகமாக குறிப்பிட்டு) வைத்துக் கொண்டு நாட்டை நடத்திவிட முடியாது. திட்டங்களை வகுத்துக் கொடுப்பதன் மூலம்தான் பணிகள் விரைவாகவும், சிறப்பாகவும் நடைபெறும்.
நாட்டின் வழிகாட்டு நெறிமுறைகள் ரோடு போடும் வேலையில் இருந்து முற்றிலும் வேறுபட்டவை. நாங்கள் திட்டங்களை செயல்படுத்தும் அமைப்பு இல்லை. திட்டங்களை சொல்பவர்கள், அதைச் செய்ய வேண்டியது அரசு தான் என்றார் மகா காட்டமாக.
கமல் நாத் காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் சோனியா குடும்பத்துக்கு நெருக்கமானவர். மாண்டேக் சிங் பிரதமர் மன்மோகன் சிங்குக்கு தோஸ்த் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
The key benchmark indices surged in choppy trade, with IT and realty stocks leading the rally. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) was almost unchanged. Stepping up of buying by foreign funds underpinning sentiment. Industrial production in May 2010 rose at a much slower-than-expected pace. Analysts expect a further 25 basis points hike in key interest rates by the central bank at a policy review later this month to control inflationary expectations.
The BSE Sensex hit its highest level in more than 3 months and the 50-unit S&P CNX Nifty scaled its highest level in more than 29 months in morning trade, just before the industrial production data which hit the market at 11:00 IST. The Sensex was provisionally up 99.63 points or 0.56%, off close to 75 points from the day's high. The Sensex crossed psychological 18,000 mark for a brief period in mid-morning trade but fell below that level later.
The market opened on a firm note, tracking higher Asian stocks. The key benchmark indices hit three-month highs at the onset of the trading session. The market extended gains in morning trade. The market pared gains in mid-morning trade on lower-than-expected growth in industrial production in May 2010. The market came off lows later. It trimmed gains after extending recovery from lower level in mid-afternoon trade. The market moved in a range in late trade.
Inflows into Indian stock funds rose to an 11-week high in the week ended 7 July 2010 as global investors responded to the arrival of monsoon rains, according global fund tracker EPFR Global. Global emerging market stock funds attracted $518 million and those investing in Asia (ex-Japan) drew $124 million, with Taiwan funds enjoying their second-best week this year, EPFR said.

Industrial output in May 2010 rose at a slower-than-expected 11.5% from a year earlier, data showed on Monday, 12 July 2010. Manufacturing output rose an annual 12.3%, the statistics office said. Mining output was up 8.7% and power generation rose 6.4%. Production of capital goods rose 34.3% year-on-year after an annual rise of 72.8% in April 2010, while consumer durables output grew 23.7%, down from a 37% rise in the previous month
April's industrial production growth was revised downwards to 16.5% from 17.6%.
European shares held positive zone but gains were capped as mining shares lost ground after data during the weekend showed China's June copper imports fell short of expectations. The key benchmark indices in Germany and UK were up 0.14% and 0.78%. However, France's CAC 40 was down 0.22%.
Asian stocks were trading with modest gains, after Wall Street closed out its best week in a year on Friday, 9 July 2010. The key benchmark indices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, China, and South Korea rose by between 0.28% to 0.8%. Japan's Nikkei 225 average fell 0.39% in volatile trade after the government lost an upper house election at the weekend. Taiwan's Weighted index fell 0.1%.
Trading in US index futures indicated that the Dow could fall 40 points at the opening bell on Monday, 12 July 2010.
Wall Street closed out its best week in a year on Friday 9 July 2010, snapping back from a long stretch of selling, as investors looked ahead to what many expect will be a solid earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 59.04 points or 0.58% at 10,198.03. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 7.70 points, or 0.72% at 1,077.95. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 21.05 points, or 0.97% at 2,196.45.
The earnings season begins with Alcoa Inc after the closing bell on Monday, 12 July 2010. In economic news, US wholesale sales fell unexpectedly in May, lifting inventories to their highest level in 11 months, a government report showed.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday, 8 July 2010 raised its world output forecast for 2010, citing solid growth in the first half, especially in Asia, but warned of significant downside risks flowing from Europe. The IMF revised its 2010 world gross domestic product forecast to 4.6%, up from a previous forecast in April of 4.2%. The 2011 GDP forecast was unchanged at 4.3%.
The IMF raised India's growth forecast for 2010 to 9.5%, stating that favourable financing conditions and robust corporate profits will accelerate economic expansion. The IMF expects India's economy to grow 8.5% in 2011.
The major near term trigger for the market is Q1 June 2010 results of India Inc, which starts with results of Infosys on Tuesday, 13 July 2010. Advance tax collections for the first quarter of the current financial year point to a strong growth in corporate sector profits. Advance tax payments by companies during the April-June quarter account for 15% of the total advance tax payable in the fiscal year. Corporate advance tax for the first quarter stood at Rs 26,876 crore, against Rs 20,456 crore in the year-ago period, a rise of 31.4%, the fastest since 2005.
Auto firms are seen reporting strong Q1 results on the back of healthy volume growth. However, margins could be under pressure due to higher input costs. Improved lending growth will spur bottom line growth of banks whereas healthy order book will drive earnings of capital goods and engineering giants L&T and Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel). Higher sales realisation would boost boom line of metal firms.
As far as the IT sector is concerned, the focus is on whether the IT bellwether Infosys revises its annual guidance when it announces the first quarter results on 13 July 2010. The IT bellwether will issue guidance for the second quarter ending September 2010 at the time of announcing the first quarter results.
Investors are also closely watching the progress of the monsoon rains. Rains have revived after weak monsoon last month. Crop planting suffered last month as rainfall was 16% below normal, but rainfall deficit for the country as a whole has narrowed down to 10% for the period 1 June-8 July after heavy rains in the past few days. Out of 36 meteorological subdivisions, the rainfall has been excess in 11 subdivisions, normal in 15 subdivisions, deficient in 9 subdivisions and scanty in 1 sub-division.
Southwest monsoon was vigorous over Rayalaseema and active over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh and South Interior Karnataka during past 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department said in its daily update on Sunday, 11 July 2010. The weather office expects decrease in rainfall activity over parts of Gujarat, northwest, central and interior peninsular India this week. It sees widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls continuing over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and northeastern states.
The south west monsoon is important for India as about 60% of the country's farmlands are rain-fed and more than half of the workforce is employed in the agriculture sector. The south-west monsoon usually covers the entire country by mid-July. The weather office expects this year's monsoon rains to be at 102% of the long-period average. Good monsoon rains would help raise farm output, boost rural incomes and lower food inflation.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 2 July 2010, hiked the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5% from 5.25%, with immediate effect. It also hiked the reverse repo rate, at which it absorbs excess cash from the banking system, by an equal 25 basis points to 4% from 3.75%. The central bank said the latest rate hike is a part of the calibrated exit from the expansionary monetary policy.
Two-thirds of WPI inflation in May 2010 was contributed by non-food items, suggesting that inflation is now very much generalised and that demand-side pressures are evident, the central bank said in a statement. WPI inflation increased to 10.2% in May 2010, up from 9.6% in April 2010.
In its April 2010 policy review, the Reserve Bank projected real GDP growth for 2010-11 at 8% with an upside bias. More recent data suggest that the upside bias has largely materialized, the central bank on 2 July 2010. The growth projection will be reviewed in the first quarter review on 27 July 2010, RBI said.
Meanwhile, the government will announce the inflation data for the month of June 2010 on Wednesday, 14 July 2010.
Coming back to stocks, the stock market regulator Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has relaxed the exposure margin requirement for stock derivatives, based on the feedback received from market participants. After trading hours on Wednesday, 7 July 2010, Sebi issued a circular saying that the exposure margin would be higher of 5% or 1.5 times the standard deviation of the notional value of the gross open position in single stock futures and gross short open position in stock options in a particular underlying.
The revised exposure margin requirement would be effective from 15 July 2010. The exposure margin requirement was similar prior October 2008, after which Sebi increased the exposure margin requirement to higher of 10%, or 1.5 times the standard deviation, to promote market safety and safeguard investor interest.
As per provisional figures, the BSE 30-share Sensex was up 99.63 points or 0.56% at 17,933.17. The index rose 41.41 points at the day's low of 17,874.95 in afternoon trade. The Sensex rose 176.53 points at the day's high of 18,010.07 in morning trade, its highest level since 7 April 2010.
The S&P CNX Nifty was up 27.25 points or 0.651% at 5,379.70 as per provisional figures. The Nifty hit a high of 5,402.70, its highest since 6 February 2008.
The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.20%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.6%.
The market breadth, indicating the strength of the broader market, was positive. On BSE, 1,527 shares advanced while 1,375 shares declined. A total of 101 shares remained unchanged. The breadth was much stronger earlier in the day.
From the 30 share Sensex pack, 18 stocks rose and rest fell.
BSE clocked turnover of Rs 3903 crore, lower than Rs 4264.85 crore on Friday, 9 July 2010.
Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) was almost unchanged at Rs 1055.80. The stock came off the day's high of Rs 1068. Reliance Industries (RIL) is reportedly looking to completely buyout the Bombay Dyeing brand from the Wadia family. Indo Rama Synthetics (India) and JBF Industries are the other players in the fray, reports added.
RIL and Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) on 25 June 2010, entered into a new gas supply agreement, as directed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had ordered the two companies to renegotiate the Gas Supply Master Agreement, which was signed between the Ambani brothers as part of the business demerger in 2005. RIL also recently announced its seventh oil discovery in Cambay basin in Gujarat.
Reliance Infrastructure fell 1.88% and was the top loser from the Sensex pack.
Interest rate sensitive realty stocks rose on bargain hunting. Mahindra Lifespace Developers, Phoenix Mills, Unitech, Indiabulls Real Estate, Omaxe, Orbit Corporation, DLF, Ackruti City, Peninsula Land and HDIL, rose by between 0.64% to 6.33%.
Bank stocks rose on a pick up in credit offtake. India's largest private sector bank by market capitalisation ICICI Bank rose 1.77%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. The bank on Friday, 9 July 2010, announced the pricing of an international bond offering of $500 million. The bank recently set its base rate for loans at 7.5%, effective 1 July 2010 as part of a new rule to set minimum lending rates.
India's second largest private sector bank by operating income HDFC Bank rose 2.24% with the stock gaining for the third straight day. The stock hit the record high of Rs 2,051 today. HDFC Bank announced during market hours on Thursday, 8 July 2010 that the bank has issued on a private placement basis unsecured, redeemable, non-convertible, subordinated bonds in the nature of debentures towards Tier-II Capital for an amount aggregating Rs 1105 crore. HDFC Bank, recently set its base rate at 7.25%.
India's biggest commercial bank in terms of branch network, State Bank of India, rose 0.86%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. SBI announced recently it has fixed the base rate at 7.5% per annum with effect from 1 July 2010.
But other PSU bank stocks were in the red. Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank fell by between 0.07% to 0.84 %.
The Reserve Bank of India introduced the new lending rate system with effect from 1 July 2010 to ensure that larger borrowers do not bargain for cheaper rates from banks, distorting their asset liability management.
India's largest dedicated housing finance firm by revenue HDFC rose 1.16%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. The lender will announce its Q1 result on Wednesday, 14 July 2010. HDFC recently launched Dual Rate Product - 3, a special home loan product at a fixed rate of 8.25% per annum up to 31 March 2011, 9.25% for the period between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2012 and the applicable floating rate for the balance term. This special offer is applicable to all new home loan customers who apply before 31 August 2010 and take at least part disbursement before 30 September 2010, HDFC said.
IT stocks rose ahead of IT bellwether Infosys' Q1 result on Tuesday, 13 July 2010. India's second largest IT exporter by sales Infosys rose 0.91%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. The stock today hit a record high of Rs 2,911.55.
India's third largest IT exporter by sales Wipro rose 2.63%, with the stock gaining for the third straight day. India's largest IT exporter by sales TCS rose 2.36%. The company will announce its Q1 result on Thursday, 15 July 2010.
Metal stocks rose as LMEX, a gauge of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange rose 1.63% on Friday, 9 July 2010. Sterlite Industries, Hindalco Industries, Sesa Goa, Steel Authority of India, JSW Steel and Hindustan Zinc rose by between 0.03% to 1.46%.
But, Tata Steel, the world's eighth-largest steelmaker, fell 0.02% reversing initial gains. The stock turned ex-dividend for a dividend of Rs 8 per share from today, 12 July 2010. Sales from company's Indian operations stood at 1.4 million tonnes in the April-June 2010 quarter, nearly flat compared with the same period last year. Sales in the quarter were hurt by weak market sentiment in the flat products segment and excessive imports of hot rolled coil from China, Tata Steel said last week.
Sales of long products, primarily used in construction, rose 8% Tata Steel said. It did not disclose growth for flat products, but said within this segment, demand from the auto sector rose 20%. The Indian operations account for about a quarter of the group's total annual global capacity of 30 million tonnes, which includes unit Corus, Europe's second-largest steelmaker. The company's crude steel production in India rose 8.3% to 1.63 million tonnes for the quarter.
Capital goods stocks rose on hopes of strong order flow in a fast rebounding economy and on the government's thrust on the infrastructure sector. Larsen & Toubro, Praj Industries, Bharat Heavy Elecricals, BEML, SKF India, Crompton Greaves rose by between 0.32% to 3.4%.
Parabolic Drugs rose 2.41%, after the company's Cephalasporin manufacturing facility at Derabassi, Punjab got Good Manufacturing Practice approval from the European Union.
GVK Power & Infrastructure rose 1.49% on reports the company is finalising plans to invest up to Rs 1,000 crore in the expansion of the Bangalore airport.
Blue Star declined 1.95% after the stock turned ex-dividend today, 12 July 2010, for a dividend of Rs 8 per share for the year ended March 2010.

Bajaj Auto and the Renault-Nissan alliance has reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 8 July 2010 to produce the ultra-low-cost car, which is likely to hit the market by 2012 in India and overseas.

The key benchmark indices gained for the second straight day as expectations of strong Q1 June 2010 results, a recent upward revision in India's GDP growth forecast by the International Monetary Fund and the stock market regulator Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi)'s recent decision to cut exposure margins on stock derivatives, boosted sentiments. Except the BSE FMCG index, all the other sectoral indices on BSE were in green. The BSE 30-share Sensex was provisionally up 189.25 points or 1.07%, off close to 15 points from the day's high. Metal, banking, auto and realty stocks rose. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries edged lower in volatile trade.
The market jumped in early trade on firm Asian stocks. The market extended gains to hit fresh intraday highs in morning trade as Asian stocks extended initial gains. The market continued the uptrend to hit fresh intraday high in mid-morning trade. The market trimmed gains in early afternoon trade as index heavyweight RIL came off the higher level. The market regained strength in mid-afternoon trade, with the Sensex hitting a fresh intraday high. It, soon, pared gains.
European shares rose, tracking gains on Wall Street on Thursday, which was boosted by jobless claims falling and a handful of large retailers reporting solid sales. The key benchmark indices in UK, France and Germany were up by 0.01% to 0.39%.
Asian stocks rallied for a second day on Friday, supported on positive US economic data. The key benchmark indices in Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and South Korea rose by between 0.5% to 2.31%.
South Korea's central bank raised its key interest rate Friday from a record low amid prospects for faster growth in the country's economy. The Bank of Korea announced that it lifted the benchmark seven-day repurchase rate to 2.25% from 2%.
Trading in US index futures indicated that the Dow could fall 17 points at the opening bell on Friday, 9 July 2010.
Wall Street rose for a third straight day on Thursday, 8 July 2010, as investors were encouraged to see jobless claims fall and a handful of large retailers report solid sales. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 120.71 points, or 1.20% at 10,138.99. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 9.98 points or 0.94% at 1,070.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 15.93 points, or 0.74% at 2,175.40.
Sales at stores open at least a year rose 3.1% in June 2010, according to company reports which was better than expected. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 21,000 to a seasonally adjusted 454,000 in the week ended 3 July 2010, the lowest level since early May, the Labor Department said.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday raised its world output forecast for 2010, citing solid growth in the first half, especially in Asia, but warned of significant downside risks flowing from Europe. The IMF revised its 2010 world gross domestic product forecast to 4.6%, up from a previous forecast in April of 4.2%. The 2011 GDP forecast was unchanged at 4.3%.
The IMF raised India's growth forecast for 2010 to 9.5%, stating that favourable financing conditions and robust corporate profits will accelerate economic expansion. The IMF expects India's economy to grow 8.5% in 2011.
The Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) Composite Business Optimism Index (BOI) for Q3 September 2010 rose to a two-year high of 150 from 132.1 in Q3 September 2009, recording an increase of almost 13.6% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis. The sustained improvement in the BOI is reflective of the continuous strengthening of confidence amongst the corporates, D&B said.
Robust growth in industrial production, stabilising domestic consumption-demand, rapidly-growing investment demand coupled with increase in imports and exports seems to have supported growing business confidence, D&B said. Improvement in hiring intentions of the corporates, as reflected in a 10 quarter high resultant optimism for employees, is a positive development and augurs well for the future growth prospects of the economy, it said.
The latest data showed the food price index rose 12.63% in the year to 26 June 2010, while the fuel price index climbed 18.02%. The pace of increase in food prices slowed from the previous week's annual rise of 12.92% while fuel price inflation accelerated from last week's 12.90%. The primary articles index was up at 16.08% compared with the previous week's reading of 14.75%.
The next major trigger for the market is Q1 June 2010 results of India Inc, which will start trickling in from the second week of July 2010. Advance tax collections for the first quarter of the current financial year point to a strong growth in corporate sector profits. Advance tax payments by companies during the April-June quarter account for 15% of the total advance tax payable in the fiscal year. Corporate advance tax for the first quarter stood at Rs 26,876 crore, against Rs 20,456 crore in the year-ago period, a rise of 31.4%, the fastest since 2005.
Auto firms are seen reporting strong Q1 results on the back of healthy volume growth. However, margins could be under pressure due to higher input costs. Improved lending growth will spur bottom line growth of banks whereas healthy order book will drive earnings of capital goods and engineering giants L&T and Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel). Higher sales realisation would boost boom line of metal firms.
As far as the IT sector is concerned, the focus is on whether the IT bellwether Infosys revises its annual guidance when it announces the first quarter results on 13 July 2010. The IT bellwether will issue guidance for the second quarter ending September 2010 at the time of announcing the first quarter results.
Investors are also closely watching the progress of the monsoon rains. Rains have revived after weak monsoon last month. Crop planting suffered last month as rainfall was 16% below normal, but rainfall deficit for the country as a whole has narrowed down to 10% for the period 1 June-8 July after heavy rains in the past few days. Rains were 2% above normal in the week ended 8 July 2010.
The south west monsoon is important for India as about 60% of the country's farmlands are rain-fed and more than half of the workforce is employed in the agriculture sector. The south-west monsoon usually covers the entire country by mid-July. The weather office expects this year's monsoon rains to be at 102% of the long-period average. Good monsoon rains would help raise farm output, boost rural incomes and lower food inflation.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 2 July 2010, hiked the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5% from 5.25%, with immediate effect. It also hiked the reverse repo rate, at which it absorbs excess cash from the banking system, by an equal 25 basis points to 4% from 3.75%. The central bank said the latest rate hike is a part of the calibrated exit from the expansionary monetary policy.
Two-thirds of WPI inflation in May 2010 was contributed by non-food items, suggesting that inflation is now very much generalised and that demand-side pressures are evident, the central bank said in a statement. WPI inflation increased to 10.2% in May 2010, up from 9.6% in April 2010.
In its April 2010 policy review, the Reserve Bank projected real GDP growth for 2010-11 at 8% with an upside bias. More recent data suggest that the upside bias has largely materialized, thecentral bank said. The growth projection will be reviewed in the first quarter review on 27 July 2010, RBI said.
Analysts expect another 25 basis points rate hike by the central bank at its quarterly review on 27 July 2010.
The government on Tuesday, 6 July 2010, took the first step towards opening up foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail. Advocating that FDI in retail would bolster farmers' income, tame inflation and bring technical knowhow, the government has kicked off a discussion to formulate the rules of the game, including imposition of FDI cap and riders for local sourcing and rural job creation. While foreign investment in multi-brand retail is prohibited now, the Government allows 51% FDI in single brand retail and 100% in wholesale cash-and-carry trade.
Meanwhile, government officials are reportedly in the process of finalising the constitutional amendments required for the rollout of the goods and services tax from 1 April 2011. The new tax, it is proposed, will replace excise duty and service tax at the Centre and VAT and local taxes at the states' level.
Coming back to stocks, foreign funds have bought equities worth a net Rs 563.78 crore in the first few days this month. Foreign funds had pumped in Rs 7713.97 crore in equities in June 2010
Domestic funds have sold shares worth a net Rs 251.76 crore in the first few days this month. They had sold equities worth a net Rs 4777.05 crore in June 2010.
The stock market regulator Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has relaxed the exposure margin requirement for stock derivatives, based on the feedback received from market participants. After trading hours on Wednesday, 7 July 2010, Sebi issued a circular saying that the exposure margin would be higher of 5% or 1.5 times the standard deviation of the notional value of the gross open position in single stock futures and gross short open position in stock options in a particular underlying.
The revised exposure margin requirement would be effective from 15 July 2010. The exposure margin requirement was similar prior October 2008, after which Sebi increased the exposure margin requirement to higher of 10%, or 1.5 times the standard deviation, to promote market safety and safeguard investor interest.
As per provisional figures, the BSE 30-share Sensex was up 189.25 points or 1.07% at 17,840.98. The Sensex rose 205.85 points at the day's high of 17,857.58 in mid-afternoon trade. The index rose 16.12 points at the day's low of 17,667.85 in early trade.
The S&P CNX Nifty was up 55.25 points or 1.04% at 5,352.10 as per provisional figures.
The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.8%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.44%. Both the indices underperformed the Sensex.
The market breadth, indicating the strength of the broader market, was positive. On BSE, 1,563 shares advanced while 1,360 shares declined. A total of 88 shares remained unchanged. The breadth was much stronger earlier in the day.
From the 30 share Sensex pack, 21 stocks rose and rest fell.
BSE clocked turnover of Rs 4227 crore, higher than Rs 3913.47 crore on Thursday, 8 July 2010.
Telecom stocks jumped after a foreign brokerage raised its rating on the telecom sector, citing an improvement in the competitive environment. Tariffs had been stable in the last eight months and high cost for 3G mobile spectrum had crimped mobile operators' ability to go for further price war, the brokerage said.
India's largest mobile services provider by sales Bharti Airtel jumped 9.3% and was the top gainer from the Sensex pack. The stock rose on huge volume of 91.9 lakh shares on BSE. Singapore Telecommunications, Southeast Asia's largest telecoms firm, said on Friday it bought around 1.6 million shares of Bharti Airtel on the open market for about Singapore dollar 12.45 million ($9.03 million).
Reliance Communications rose 2.2% to Rs 192.25. On BSE, 36.8 lakh shares changed hands in the counter. Idea Cellular jumped 13.5% to Rs 67. The scrip vaulted on massive volume of 1.2 crore shares.
India's largest FMCG maker by sales Hindustan Unilever fell 1.66% and was the top loser from the Sensex pack.
Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) fell 0.18% to Rs 1054.60. The stock hit a high of Rs 1,066 and a low of Rs 1052.40. RIL and Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) on 25 June 2010, entered into a new gas supply agreement, as directed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had ordered the two companies to renegotiate the Gas Supply Master Agreement, which was signed between the Ambani brothers as part of the business demerger in 2005.
RIL also recently announced its seventh oil discovery in Cambay basin in Gujarat.
Cipla fell 0.59%. The company today said news report about its chief executive leaving the company is speculative. The executive Amar Lulla is on medical leave, company said.
Metal and mining stocks rose on positive economic data in US, the world's biggest economy. Sterlite Industries, Hindalco Industries, Jindal Steel & Power, Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa, Steel Authority of India, JSW Steel and Hindustan Zinc rose by between 0.41% to 2.73%.
Tata Steel, the world's eighth-largest steelmaker, rose 2.51% to Rs 496.30, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. Sales from its Indian operations stood at 1.4 million tonnes in the April-June 2010 quarter, nearly flat compared with the same period last year. Sales in the quarter were hurt by weak market sentiment in the flat products segment and excessive imports of hot rolled coil from China, Tata Steel said.
Sales of long products, primarily used in construction, rose 8% Tata Steel said. It did not disclose growth for flat products, but said within this segment, demand from the auto sector rose 20%. The Indian operations account for about a quarter of the group's total annual global capacity of 30 million tonnes, which includes unit Corus, Europe's second-largest steelmaker. The company's crude steel production in India rose 8.3% to 1.63 million tonnes for the quarter.
Steelcast rose 6.54%, after the company said its board will meet on 14 July 2010 to consider forming joint venture with Michigan Steel of USA, a leading steel foundry, for marketing of steel castings in United States.
Bank stocks rose on a pick up in credit offtake. India's largest private sector bank by market capitalisation ICICI Bank rose 1.03%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. The bank today announced the pricing of an international bond offering of $500 million. The bank, last week, set its base rate for loans at 7.5% effective 1 July 2010 as part of a new rule to set minimum lending rates.
India's second largest private sector bank by operating income HDFC Bank rose 3.44% to Rs 2010 with the stock gaining for the second straight day. The stock hit the record high of Rs 2010.90 today. HDFC Bank announced during market hours on Thursday that the bank has issued on a private placement basis unsecured, redeemable, non-convertible, subordinated bonds in the nature of debentures towards Tier-II Capital for an amount aggregating Rs 1105 crore. HDFC Bank, last week, set its base rate at 7.25%.
India's biggest commercial bank in terms of branch network, State Bank of India, rose 0.57% with the stock gaining for the second straight day. SBI announced last week it has fixed the base rate at 7.5% per annum with effect from 1 July 2010.
The Reserve Bank of India introduced the new lending rate system with effect from 1 July 2010 to ensure that larger borrowers do not bargain for cheaper rates from banks, distorting their asset liability management.
India's largest dedicated housing finance firm by revenue HDFC rose 1.18%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. HDFC recently launched Dual Rate Product - 3, a special home loan product at a fixed rate of 8.25% per annum up to 31 March 2011, 9.25% for the period between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2012 and the applicable floating rate for the balance term. This special offer is applicable to all new home loan customers who apply before 31 August 2010 and take at least part disbursement before 30 September 2010, HDFC said.
Interest rate sensitive realty stocks rose on bargain hunting after a recent slide triggered by rate hike worries. Mahindra Lifespace Developers, Unitech, Indiabulls Real Estate, Omaxe, Orbit Corporation, DLF, Peninsula Land and HDIL rose by between 0.02% to 4.73%.
IT stocks rose on positive economic data in the US, which is the biggest market for Indian IT firms. India's second largest IT exporter by sales Infosys rose 1.63%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. The stock today hit a record high of Rs 2,882.
India's third largest IT exporter by sales Wipro rose 0.97%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. India's largest IT exporter by sales TCS fell 0.33%, reversing early gains.
Auto stocks rose on expectations of good Q1 results. India's largest tractor maker by sales Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) rose 2.46%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. The company, last week, reported an increase of 19.84% in auto sales to 27,562 units in June 2010 over June 2009. Despite the annual shutdown in the first week of June, the auto division posted strong growth rates, M&M said in a press release. Tractor sales declined 9% to 16,590 units in June 2010 over June 2009, as the company is facing supply constraints from component makers (casting and tyres).
India's largest commercial vehicle maker by sales Tata Motors rose 1.92%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. Tata Motors' total sales jumped 49% to 67,730 in June 2010 over June 2009. Domestic sales rose 45% to 62,602 and exports jumped 138% to 5,128 in June 2010 over June 2009. The figures do not include the luxury Jaguar, Land Rover brands it makes in Britain.
Ashok Leyland rose 0.22%, extending last four days' gains. The company reported an over two-fold jump in total commercial vehicle sales to 8,400 units in June 2010 compared to the same month last year.
India's largest car maker by sales Maruti Suzuki India rose 1.39%, with the stock gaining for the second straight day. The company's total vehicle sales rose 17.3% to 88,091 vehicles in June 2010 over June 2009.
Car sales in India rose an annual 30.8% in June 2010, an industry body said on Thursday. Firms sold 141,184 cars in the month, compared with 107,948 units a year ago, data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed. Sales of trucks and buses, a barometer of economic activity, rose 44% to 52,211 units in June, SIAM said.
The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda Motors rose 0.51%, with the stock snapping last three days' losses. The company reported a 16.6% jump in its sales at 4,26,454 in June 2010 over June 2009.
Bajaj Auto gained 0.65% to Rs 2,417.60 after the two-wheeler major signed an agreement with Renault-Nissan alliance to manufacture an ultra low-cost car to be sold in India and other emerging markets, which would be a rival to Tata Motors' Nano.
